September 11th

I Remember

I remember where I was,
the day those towers fell.
I remember what I was doing
when New York turned to hell.

I was up above you,
looking from the sky.
You called to me
from down below,
I heard your anguished cries.

You asked me where I was
in that time of need.
You wondered what I was doing
during that terrible, terrible deed.

You thought that I had left you
to handle this on your own.
I watched my children
come together to help the unknown.

America came together
UNITED once again.
Enemies became friends
and friends were once again.

Now you can see
I didn't leave your side
I was really here the whole time.

I wanted everyone to come together
like they were once before.
So when you think back on this terrible day,
Remember I was with you
and now America is home to stay.

September 11th 2001:
I was in 8th grade, 13 years old. I remember getting on the bus to go to Centerville Jr High. We were listening to FM 100 and Peggy was talking about a building being hit in New York.
I didn't think anything of it...
until I walked into the school.

The secretaries in the office had the tv on,
the image will ever be engraved in my head.
The World Trade Center was on fire.
As I watched this in horror, out of the corner of the screen came another huge plane. I watched as it crashed, with no mercy, into the 2nd tower.

My first class was Science with Mr. Gardner.
We watched the terror unfold throughout the whole class.
I watched the towers collapse, I saw the desperate people jumping out of the towers.

I was terrified. I went to the bathroom and cried, not knowing what to think. They told us it was terrorists. What the heck was a terrorist anyway?
I found out pretty quickly.

The whole day I was scarred, emotional, I even had to call my mom.

I grew up that day and my love for this country became unwavering.

September 11th 2001 will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN in my life.
